Boy howdy you can pack a lot of rear into these shorts, I can tell ya that right now. Ok first of all, I am 5'6" and about 180 lb (42" / 40" / 48" - hence why I'm getting cycling clothes woo hoo) and I ordered this in the XL size. My cycling twin brother warned me I shouldn't buy top and bottom SETS because you might be a M top and an XXXL bottom because of the way this stuff is sized but I'm happy to report the top and bottom fit quite well. The shorts are a little tight, but the padding is G R E A T, and the top fits comfortably. the rubber inside the pant legs and inside the bottom hem of the top hold things in place quite well. I'm please. Can't wait to go bike my way down to - dare I say it - a Medium.
